NSM - Parkway UCC from St. Louis, MO

We welcomed the youth group from Parkway UCC - St. Louis, MO

The group worked at our breakfast program each morning.  Monday afternoon they worked on a Habitat house in Wooster.  Tuesday afternoon they traveled to Kidron to work at Sonnenberg Village.  Wednesday was their fun day.  After working breakfast, they went up to Cleveland to tour the UCC National Offices and went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Thursday they went with Trinity's CAT Youth at the OARDC.  Later in the afternoon, they went to MOHA House.  Friday, after working breakfast they headed for home.

Education segments included:  On Monday, John and Sue talked to them about the breakfast program.  Tuesday they went up to the Boys and Girls Club and learned about the facility from program Director, Christine Lindeman.  We had our closing circle on Thursday afternoon after MOHA House.  At 9:00 pm we as a group sat outside the back door on plastic mats talking about the homeless.

We at North Street Mission want groups to have a meaningful week and hope that they continue to go on mission trips in the future.  Part of this process involves getting feedback form the groups.  Here is a summary of the feedback from the Parkway UCC:

Parkway UCC - St. Louis, MO
July 28 - August 2, 2019

I believe that NSM can make a difference by:

1.  Continuing to hold true to its mission and to be leaders of spirituality and service in its community.

2.  Continuing to honor each person as a Child of God by bringing the community together as a united family.

3.  Continue what you are doing.

4.  Keep bringing people to C.A.T. and all the places we went to.

5.  I highly recommend continuing the breakfast program. It is a great way to continue connections, using of resources, (like using milk, pastries) and everyone was so helpful and caring. (P.S. thank you for hosting us! Thank you!)

6.  Doing what ur doing.

7.  Lesson on poverty…and the choices people make [we served a family with four kids today who are going to Florida tomorrow for a week-could be a gift from family member, funeral, whatever-but discussion of poverty would be helpful

8.  Police presence from time to time at breakfast-unannounced to build relationships. A visiting nurse once a month at breakfast. Opening up to Intergenerational Mission trips.

Survey Responses.....

1.  I loved hearing person after person tell us that mission was such a huge part of their Christianity.  Service to others is what the church should be.

2.  Building relationships day after day on the serving line.  Feeling connected with the clients served.

3.  We all have our struggles no matter where you are and what they look like.

4.  Be grateful for what I have.

5.  To always be nice to everyone.

6.  The breakfast, because it was so heart warming.

7.  Real time contact with breakfast clients.

8.  I truly want mission to become a regular part of my and my church's Christianity.
