NSM - Disciples and Heights Christian churches
NSM - Disciples Christian and Heights Christian Churches July 2018
We welcomed two youth groups, one from Disciples Christian Church in Cleveland Heights and one from Heights Christian Church in Shaker Heights, to North Street Mission! The group worked two mornings in our breakfast program, one morning at St. James community lunch, one afternoon at People to People and one afternoon at MOCA house.
We at North Street Mission want groups to have a meaningful week and hope that they continue to go on mission trips in the future. Groups are also encouraged to visit us sometime in the future! Part of the process involves getting feedback from the groups. Here is a summary from these groups:
I believe NSM can make a difference by.....
- Keep doing what they are doing helping mental ill, homeless, special needs, etc.
- Letting more less fortunate people know that they are loved and welcomed.
- Giving back and helping the community one breakfast at a time.
- Getting the community together to solve problems.
- Helping lonely people find companionship and then hope.
- Continuing it's mission volunteer program (ie breakfast M-F, and helping other agencies)
- Continuing to create an open and accepting environment in Wooster and influencing other areas to do the same.
- Helping those who are less fortunate and in need of food or other essentials.
- Increasing awareness of various social issues and helping to start conversations about what can be done in our communities.
- Continuing to help others who are really in need and doing work in God's light.
- Maybe in the winter provide blankets and supplies just like how you do with clothing.
- Fostering relationships with the community.
Survey responses...
- MOCA house, the people were a lot nicer than expected; cared about you.
- Do more work for the less fortunate.
- How this service has impacted some of the people it serves to then serve others.
- There is a need to serve those less fortunate then we are recognizing it as the will of God.
- I have gained ideas that I am hopeful to implement through my own church.
- Seeing how breakfast really helped them and also how the people at the MOCA house enjoyed our company.
- Helping with breakfast makes me want to help at the soup kitchen.
- Did not realize that Wooster had problems similar to Cleveland.
- Get to know people.
- Would like to start a food bank and change our thrift shop to something like People to People.
- Serving breakfast and realizing that no matter how different people are their needs are still the same.
- No matter where you go, there will always be need and there will always be room for more volunteers.
- MOCA program has reinforced that I should study peoples behavior in college and use that work to communicate with all people.
- The needs of the people in a small community.
- We are all children of God.
- The small talk that I had with people receiving food was nice.
- People are very appreciative about the services people offer to help them.
- I plan on offering more of my time to people in need.
- Serving breakfast and painting the People to People sign.
- Become more kind and giving // more open and thoughtful.
- I think that it really opened my eyes to the world around me that I didn't know existed.
- This really emphasized loving everyone and accepting everyone which is what I always try to do.
- I'd like to try and do something like the breakfast program at my church.
- Everyone is a person, people are people.
- Be thankful for what you have.
- Treat everyone the same.
